Chaos erupts as council tries to curtail negativity

After months of citizens’ comments from a few disgruntled residents about things Monessen City Council has no control over, the mayor tried to institute some new rules Thursday night. Over the past few meetings, the commentary has devolved into name-calling, insults and often yelling. Near the beginning of Thursday’s meeting, Mon Valley Independent owner Moe Galis stood to talk about the minutes of last month’s meeting, in which resident Pino Cianflone called the MVI “fake” and called Mayor Ron Mozer “a liar.” “Well, I’m here for the newspaper and if you got anything fake about it, say it to my face right now,” Galis said to Cianflone.
