After a season-opening loss to non-section foe West Allegheny, the Thomas Jefferson girls’ soccer team has been on a winning rampage and collected its 13th consecutive victory Wednesday night with a 5-4 triumph over Elizabeth Forward at Warrior Stadium.
Out of those 13 straight wins, this was the tightest as TJ withstood a late surge by EF to inch one step closer to a Section 2-3A title.
“This is a big win, I think this gives us the section outright,” TJ coach Sean Richter said. “That’s been one of our top goals from the start of the year. EF is a good team and I don’t think they get enough credit. I think they could definitely make some moves in the playoffs, and who knows, we might see them again.”
With the win, the Jaguars (13-1, 12-0) remain undefeated in section play and clinched at least a share of the section crown. They own a two-game lead over EF with two games remaining.
The Warriors (11-3, 10-2) couldn’t avenge a 2-0 road setback to TJ on Sept. 18.
