On Oct. 4, Abby Beinlich stood alongside her teammates and had her named called as a member of the starting 11 against visiting Connellsville.
That was a common occurrence for the Elizabeth Forward senior over the last three seasons. But this experience was different.
“It was definitely weird,” said Beinlich, who joined her fellow starters with a brace wrapped around her right knee and crutches in hand.
“I loved being out there, though. I love all of the girls and I love supporting all of them. I just honestly wish I could have been out there playing with them.”
The opportunity to be announced as a starter was part of a senior night that honored Alyssa Terza, Giovanna Ferraro, Olivia Kristen, Rhyan Smith and Beinlich, who has missed all but one game this fall due to a knee injury.
A reliable offensive weapon for the Warriors and first-year head coach Sotiri Tsourekis, Beinlich saw her season come to a sudden end in the first half of a season-opening win over Albert Gallatin.
“I was dribbling, I saw the goalie coming out at me and I didn’t want to run into her,” Beinlich explained. “I stepped with my right foot, tried to move and that’s when it tweaked.”
