Ernest J. Sutts, 79, of Monongahela, passed away at home on Oct. 10, 2023. Ernie was born in Carroll Township, on Aug. 15, 1944, and was the son of the late Frank F. and Anna Mae Gerba Sutts. After graduating from Monongahela High School in 1962, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, Ernie began working as a heavy equipment operator for Black Top Paving before joining Local Union 66 and working for several companies, including Norwin Industries from where he retired in 2006. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Carroll Township American Legion Post 949 and the former Pioneer Archery Club in Finleyville. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnne Doty Sutts, whom he married Aug. 12, 1967; a daughter and son-in-law, Annarie and Gary Cartwright of Eighty-Four; two grandchildren, Alivia and Colton Cartwright; his twin brother, Frank Sutts of Finleyville; a sister-in-law, Patty Radic of New Eagle; along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Shirley Watsula. A memorial gathering will be held at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, with military honors at 2 p.m. conducted by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
