Catherine M. ‘Sis’ Manack Matson – Belle Vernon

Catherine M. “Sis” Manack Matson, 102, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver Township, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital. Born Jan. 26, 1921, in Van Meter, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Steve and Helen Arva Manack. Catherine was a graduate of Rostraver High School, Class of 1939, was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and John Crane of Belle Vernon, Patricia and Donald Serwinski of Farmington; daughter-in-law, Jean Matson of Greensburg; grandchildren, Johnny and Suzi Crane of Orlando, Fla., Christopher and Ellen Serwinski of Franklinton, N.C., Ami Serwinski of Watertown, N.Y., Jeffrey and So Matson of Woodbine, Md., Melissa and Mike Battisti of Flemington, N.J., and Tracy McDonald of Cary, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Krystian Serwinski, Walker and Connor McDonald, Aven and Violet Crane, Landon and Eden Matson, and Ava, Aubrey and Ryan Battisti; sister, Margaret Weaver of Belle Vernon; brother, James Manack of Perryopolis; and sister-in-law, Loretta Manack of Belle Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James E. Matson Sr.; son, James E. Matson Jr.; granddaughter, Shelly Crane McDonald; brothers, John “Bucky” Manack and Joseph Manack; and sisters, Barbara Manack and Helen Zolock. Visitation will be for the family only from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Monday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183, followed by a prayer and interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Catherine M. Matson to fight rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that her oldest granddaughter had at age 3.
