William B. Shepler Jr., 74, of Belle Vernon, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, in Jefferson Hospital. A son of the late William Shepler Sr. and Lois Haley Park, he was born in Charleroi on June 20, 1949. A lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon area, William was a 1967 graduate of Bellmar High School, where he played football. An avid outdoorsman, he belonged to Rostraver Gun Club and enjoyed fishing and trap shooting. William was a United States Vietnam veteran serving from 1969-70 in the 4th Infantry Division, proudly earning a combat infantry badge. William was employed by U.S. Steel, Merritt Metal and then Allied Mechanical, which he retired from in 2011. He is survived by his wife, Janine Pasko Shepler; two daughters, Lori (Todd) Fine of Bridgeville and Melanie Shumar of Brownsville; a stepson, William (Jodi) Petyak of the state of Indiana; three grandchildren, Madeline and Nathan Fine and Patrick Shumar; a brother-in-law, Mike Horan of Washington, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Tamara Chacko; nieces and nephews, Amanda Petry, Erica Horan, Michael Horan, Mark Shepler and Kenny Shepler; three great-nieces, Lily, Abigail and Julia; and three great-nephews, Logan, Andrew and Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chuck Shepler, on Dec. 19, 1989. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Sandy Fitzgibbons officiating. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the cemetery on Tuesday.
