Noah Quattro is officially in the business of saving lives.
A 23-year-old Monessen resident, and with years of volunteering as a first responder and in the fire service for various communities, he now has a career he is truly passionate about: As a full-time paid firefighter for the Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Co.
Talks surrounding the new position began last September, when supervisors Earl Sadler, Joe Sopchak and Chairman Bruce Smith unanimously agreed to spend about $14,000 to support a trial program for the remainder of 2022.
The money came from the township’s general fund, but was given directly to the fire company to oversee the program.
In December, supervisors saw the value in the position and unanimously agreed to incorporate it into their 2023 budget, with no tax increase to get the job done. Funds for the position at the fire company are being covered by Washington County Local Share Account funds.
The fire company currently operates with about 25 active volunteers and is run by Chief Anthony Fleming, who was tasked with finding the right candidate for the new full-time position.
“Noah is everything we were looking for and more,” Fleming said. “He has been working hard, in the community every day, and if anyone needs anything he is here.”
While the position is being funded by the township, Quattro is an employee of the fire company and has been on the job since June, getting to know members of the community and making sure equipment and the fire company are up to par and ready to go when an emergency arises.
