Sometimes your senior captains must take over a game and raise their level of play.
For the Bentworth girls’ soccer team on Wednesday, two of their captains elevated their respective games and carried the Bearcats to a thrilling 2-0 victory over hosting Waynesburg Central in Section 2-1A play.
Emily Kisner collected a pair of second half goals for the Bearcats (1-1, 1-1), while Cassidy Sicchitano was spectacular in net with 11 saves in the shutout win.
“It was a gutsy effort by the girls,” Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra said. “We knew on turf, Waynesburg was going to pass the ball well and we had to slow them down. We wanted to pack it in and make it difficult for them to get close-up shots. We followed the game plan and then we made the proper halftime adjustments.”
Bentworth was coming off a 3-1 setback to Charleroi on Monday.
“The girls battled back strong after that loss,” Hamstra said. “Two of our senior captains tonight really stepped up and took the game over. That is why they are the captains of the team. Their play is supposed to lead you to wins. We connected with simple passes and things opened up for us.”
