Fred Vernon ‘Bussy’ Oler – Charleroi

Fred Vernon “Bussy” Oler, 93, of Charleroi, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, at Mon Valley Care Center. He was born on Sept. 6, 1929, in North Charleroi, son of the late Charles W. Jr. and Elizabeth Walsh Oler. Fred was a machinist by trade and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Fred had a great love of life and enjoyed all family activities, neighbors and attending Pitt sporting events with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Slavic Citizens’ Club and the Belgium Club. Fred also enjoyed golf and bowling with the Rotolo league, gardening, euchre and a good picnic. Fred was a devoted family man, and his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially attending all of his grandchildren’s activities. Fred is survived by his daughters, Nancy Oler and Cindy Scirotto, both of Speers; his grandchildren, Kristen (Josh) Scirotto of Harrison City, Pa., and Vincent (Gigi) Scirotto of Florida; his niece, Mary Oler of Speers; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Oler; and three brothers, William Oler, James Oler and James Kilpatrick. The family would like to thank Mon Valley Care Center and Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care and support. There will be no public visitation, per Fred’s request. Arrangements have been entrusted to HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME at 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hogan-melenyzer.com.
