Monessen City School District opens the doors for its 2023-24 school year today and this year’s motto is, “Old ways do not open new doors.”
Superintendent Dr. Robert Motte said the district’s goal this year is to work toward a new Monessen, a new educational culture that intends to prepare kids better for their post high school lives.
At Monessen Elementary, there will be a few new special classes this year.
STEAM, a rotation class, will focus on science, technology, engineering, art and math. Motte said art lessons are included as part of that class.
Another special rotation class that’s been added is library and media. All students will go through that class, Motte said.
