Carol Groomes, 75, of Donora, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at Mon Valley Care Center in Monongahela. She was born Nov. 29, 1947, in Uniontown, daughter of the late Steve Krassa and the late Anne Marie Hyjurick Krassa. She enjoyed shopping, camping and fishing trips to Lake Erie with her late husband. Traveling with her late husband included driving trips cross country, girls’ trips to the beach; oldies cruises with family and going to lunch or dinner with family and friends. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Groomes; and a brother-in-law, George L. Pierce. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sister, Cynthia Pierce of Charleroi; a brother, Mark (Joyce) Krassa of Nevada; stepchildren, W. James Groomes (Carol), of New York, N.Y., Eric Johnson of Rochester, N.Y., Sheila Groomes of Donora, and Theresa Bronson of Tarentum, Pa.; special nieces, Tricia Payne and Dora Johnson; nephew, Stephen (Jessica) Sowers; great-nephews, Tyler (Eduardo) Ulens and Adam (Caitlin) Ulens; and several cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2023. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home. Private interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela, at a later date.
