Robert “Bob” Murdock, 76, of Monessen, our loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born Oct. 3, 1946, in North Charleroi, son of the late Frederick Murdock and the late Clara Sabo Murdock. A lifelong resident of the Mon Valley, he was a member of the St. Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Donora and the Knights of Columbus. Bob was a U.S. Army and National Guard veteran who served during the Vietnam conflict and retired from the U.S. Post Office in Monessen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McGuire; and a brother, Frederick Murdock. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Shirley Kovalak Murdock; a daughter, Suzanne (Robert) Tekavec of Elizabeth Township; two sons, Robert M. Murdock of Florida and Matthew (Suzanne) Murdock of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Frank, Kara, Isabelle and Evan; brother, Jim (Nancy) Murdock of California; sister-in-law, Ruth Murdock; and brother-in-law, John McGuire. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023. Funeral prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, followed by a 11 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Donora with the Rev. Father Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, with full military rites being accorded by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
