Richard William Rice – Raleigh, N.C., formerly of McKeesport

Richard William Rice, 71, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of McKeesport, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 26, 2023. Born Dec. 30, 1951, he was preceded in death by his parents, Gloria Perzel Bodnar (Scotty) and Richard Brown Rice (Geri); and his beloved grandmother, Susan Perzel, affectionately referred to as “Bubby.” Richard was a teacher by trade but a musician at heart. He was often found with his guitar in his hand and a song to share. He enjoyed music, camping, traveling and the outdoors; activities that will live on as he instilled these loves in his children. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Smith Rice of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, M.E. Rice Ballard (Kevin) of Bardstown, Ky.; brother, Reb Rice and family of Cleveland, Ohio; and daughters, Jennifer Rice Chiaverini (Dominic) of Elizabeth, Susan Rice (Justin Tomlinson) of Raleigh, N.C., Laura Rice of Big Bar, Calif., and grandchildren, Nicole, Kailyn, Jackson and Billy; along with nieces and nephews.
