Lois M. Kriston Chornak, 92, of Finleyville, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2023, in her home. Born Aug. 27, 1930, in Webster, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Rozili Radakovich Kriston. Lois graduated in 1948 from Monongahela High School and was a member of St. John XXIII Parish (St. Francis of Assisi Church) in Finleyville. Lois was a member of American Legion Auxiliary No. 613 and New Eagle AARP No. 4095 and was a proud member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary of the United States of America Inc. After high school, Lois worked in sales at the former Joseph Horne Co. in Pittsburgh, until opening with her late husband Chornak’s Tire Service, which they ran from their home in Finleyville for over 40 years. Lois is survived by a son, John M. Chornak III of Finleyville; seven grandchildren, John IV (Michelle) Chornak, Anna Marie Chornak, Jordan M. (Christy) Chornak, Jenna M. Chornak, James R. (Courtney) Lyle, William M. Lyle (Dana Katz) and Patrick J. Lyle (Jeralyn Baker); 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Stephen (Linda) Kriston of Texas, Lee (Andrea) Kriston of Forward Township and Gary Kriston of Baldwin Township; along with many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Chornak Jr., who died Nov. 22, 2014; her daughter, Rosanne Lyle; a son-in-law, James W. Lyle; three brothers, Richard, Oliver and Michael Kriston; and three sisters, Dolores Yates, Zita Kriston and Elizabeth Gurofsky. At the family’s request, Lois had a private family visitation and her interment was held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville.
