By obits

Daryl Cornell Husovitz, 75, of Lexington, Ky., passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital after a six-year courageous battle with angiosarcoma. Born on Nov. 2, 1947, to the late John and Clara Cornella Husovitz, Daryl grew up in North Charleroi, Pa. He graduated from Charleroi High School and California University of Pennsylvania before serving in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., and during the Vietnam War, he served the U.S. forces in Thailand. Daryl began his career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh in 1972. His 33-year career as a purchasing manager allowed him and his beloved family to call many places “home,” including Jefferson City, Mo., Newtown, Conn., Vidalia, Ga., Hampton, S.C. and Annapolis, Md. He retired in Lexington after 12 years as chief operating officer for Highbridge Springs and Kentucky Underground Storage. Daryl’s hobbies included golf, billiards, darts and enjoying a good cigar. He loved to share his home sports bar, where he came to be affectionately known as “Big D,” with his friends and family. He also had a love for his favorite sports teams, including his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers and his daughters’ Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs. He was an avid reader and could outplay anyone in Trivial Pursuit. He and his wife of 53 years, Betty Ann Waggoner, have two daughters, Krista Roberts (David) of Denver, Colo., and Kari Foy (Hank) of Hampton, S.C. They have four grandsons who they loved traveling to visit, John Henry Foy, Charlie Foy, Benjamin Roberts and Samuel Roberts. Besides his immediate family, he leaves behind an older brother, Ken, of Carnegie, Pa., as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators.
