McKeesport celebrates 17th Past and Present reunion

By Jeremy Sellew

Hundreds attended the McKeesport Past and Present 17th annual reunion community picnic at Moran Field in McKeesport on Saturday afternoon. The three-day event, created in honor of the late McKeesport educator Barbara J. Price Spencer, is held every July and brings together current and former residents of McKeesport. Former McKeesport residents now living in Texas, North Carolina, Washington, D.C. and Georgia were among those in attendance from out of state.
The reunion weekend kicked off with a Friday banquet at the Palisades in McKeesport. With the theme “reconciliation and hope,” the MPP committee honored Reverend Dr. Lawana L. Butler and Reverend Paul Waite. Scholarship recipients were McKeesport area students Jermirrah Vining, Luciano Lanz and Aemond Marcus Knight.
The reunion concluded on Sunday with a church service at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, McKeesport.
McKeesport Past and Present 2023 committee members included Laureese Harper, Johnny Harper, Larry Gadsen, Alena Leggett, chair, Pamela Battle-Burgwin, Camille Herriott, Crystal Little, Brenda Sawyer, Katherine Brown, Sarah Francis, Tawnee Herriott Lafayette Herriot Jr., Marcellus Allen, Lena Bryan-Henderson, Lance Cash Junior, Keith Murphy, Cameron Preston, Mahogany Preston, Kathi Sanford, Yawatta Sayles, Franklin Spence and Kay Stinson.
