Frances E. Sabo – West Newton

Frances E. Sabo, 80, of West Newton, died Sunday, July 2, 2023. Born in West Newton on Feb. 22, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Edwin H. Hamilton and Thelma F. Harris Slavic. Frances was a member of St. Basil the Great Russian Orthodox Church in Rostraver Township. She received her Bachelor of Science degree and her master’s degree from California State College and her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. An educator and reading specialist, Frances worked in the Norwin School District, Carlow College and LaRoche College. She is survived by her brother, David G. (Lori) Slavic of West Newton; sisters, Cathy Hanna of Ravenna, Ohio, Virginia (Ted) Stewart of Hardinsburg, Ky., and Debbie Boyce of N.C.; sister-in-law, Sheila Slavic of Donora; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred P. Sabo; brothers, Albert E. Slavic and Thomas G. Slavic Sr. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Basil the Great Russian Orthodox Church, 1449 Ridge Road, Belle Vernon, PA 15012, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with the Very Rev. Joseph Romanchak officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Basil the Great Russian Orthodox Church.
