Louis J. Tarantino – Fairhope

Louis J. Tarantino, 89, of Fairhope, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 29, 2023, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Luigi and Pauline Nessmar Tarantino, he was born on June 28, 1934, in Monessen. Louis resided in the Belle Vernon area most of his adult life and was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. Louis graduated from Monessen High School in 1952 and received his bachelor’s degree in teaching from California University. Prior to his education career, he worked for NASA for five years in the photo lab and then worked as a schoolteacher for the Belle Vernon Area School District until his retirement in 2001. Louis loved playing guitar and various string instruments and was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association. Louis served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Evelyn Bednar Tarantino; one brother and sister-in-law, Rob and Lynne Rohland of Rostraver; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Tarantino; and two daughters, LuAnn Tarantino in 1995, and Lisa Naylor in 2011. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A blessing will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with Father Michael Crookston as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
