Charleroi OKs deal, won’t dissolve authority

The wait is over — a dissolution is off the table, rates will stay the same and jobs are secure at the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi.
After months of back and forth between Charleroi Borough officials and the Authority of the Borough of Charleroi, a contract has been unanimously agreed upon and officially signed by both parties — and the deal appears to be a win-win for everyone.
The new deal, negotiated between the borough and the authority, did not involve Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel — the firm hired in March at the recommendation of Borough Solicitor Sean Logue. Logue previously told council it would be best to use that law firm for matters related to ABC as they are experts in the field.
Instead, council and the authority sat down together over the past two weeks to hammer out the details on their own.
The resolution and contract passed and was signed by ABC at their meeting Tuesday, ABC Solicitor Dennis Paluso said.
According to Paluso, the agreement is similar to the offer originally proposed to the borough in December to purchase borough-owned sewer lines for $2 million, which council rejected.
The newly agreed upon deal is for $3.7 million, which will be paid to the borough over five years.
