Helen McGovern – Monessen

Helen McGovern, 97, of Monessen, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. Born in Monessen on May 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary Timkovitch Berkovitch. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. Helen enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Mary Ellen George; two grandsons, James George and Charles McGovern; three sisters, Jean, Ann and Mary; and two brothers Alex and John. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Toni McGovern of Monessen, Patrick and Liza McGovern of Fallowfield Township, and Michael McGovern of Monessen; five grandchildren, Kelly George, of Raleigh, N.C., Melissa McGovern Hill of Morgantown W.Va., Kate George of Raleigh, N.C., Chloe George Rasmussen of Raleigh, N.C. and Kelly McGovern of Pittsburgh; seven great-grandchildren, Zach Jones, Will Buttaggi, Davis, Maddie Ann and Hill Rasmussen and Jayden and Jordan Hill. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen. Blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rostraver Township.
