Francis J LaMendola, 93, of Monessen, formerly of Donora, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born March 3, 1930, in Donora, son of the late Samuel LaMendola and the late Elizabeth Ondeck LaMendola. Fran was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Donora American Legion and the former Donora Elks. He was a teacher and coach for the Ringgold School District. Fran was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred “Mutsy” LaMendola; and two sisters, Joanne LaMendola and Geraldine Gaitens. Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Jeri and Lou Book of Monessen, with whom he resided; step grandson, Alan (Ashley) Book of Arizona; step great-grandchildren, Colton and Riley Book; a brother, Donald LaMendola of Virginia; along with several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being handled by ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish Donora Campus.
