Dorothy A. Gray McDonald – Finleyville

By obits

Dorothy A. Gray McDonald, 91, of Finleyville (Union Township), passed away two days before her 92nd birthday on June 8, 2023, in St. Clair Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born June 10, 1931, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Ralph M. and Nora (Wakefield) Gray. Dorothy was proud to be a 1949 graduate of Dormont High School and after graduation started working in retail for Kaufmann’s and Horne’s department stores. She considered her greatest work to be raising her children, Virginia “Ginny” and Dwight, during which time she served as a Girl Scout leader. She later worked at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monongahela with her late husband, Howard “Hub.” Dorothy was a faithful member of her church for over 50 years and she enjoyed serving in her congregation’s Relief Society and singing in the choir. Her greatest sources of joy and devotion were her family and her faith. Dorothy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Scott Frederick of Carroll Township; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight and Janine Ferguson of Upper St. Clair; seven grandchildren, Aimee (Jeremy) Lunt, Kerri (Michael) Cox, Erin (Richard) Snow, Gabriel (Whitney) Mosey, Rebecca (Tim) Quezada, Leah Ferguson and Graham (Elizabeth) Ferguson; and 12 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Owen, Noah, Eloise, Thomas, Lucy, Henry, Grayson, Scotty, Adelaide, Wells and Elise. She looked forward to a sacred reunion with those who preceded her in death, her husband, Howard C. McDonald, who died Jan. 22, 1993; her granddaughter, Lauren Elise Mosey, who died Oct. 13, 2019; and her beloved parents. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 13. Friends and family who are planning to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 136 Sacred Heart Road, Monongahela, for a service starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Condolences can be made online at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
