Gloria M. Johnson – Holly Lake Ranch, formerly of Monongahela

By obits

Gloria M. Johnson, 98, of Holly Lake Ranch, formerly of Monongahela, Pa., transitioned on Sunday, May 21, 2023. Gloria was predeceased by her loving husband, Johnny; son, John; parents, Kenneth and Grace; two sisters, Kathleen and Flora; a brother, Kenneth (Peach); and a host of other relatives to welcome her to Heaven’s shores. Gloria was widely known for her gifts and talents as a pianist and organist throughout high school and Carnegie Tech, as well as her amazing cooking. And she loved to laugh when she could get with family and good friends. She performed on well-known stages in Connecticut, New York and Washington, D.C., including the Potter’s House in Texas. She accompanied numerous church choirs on the East and the West coasts, where she expanded her repertoire to include solo work after receiving the training she sought. Gloria was full of passion and talent! Who knew! Music was not all she could do. But she could do more than just music! Until Gloria could establish herself as a musician in Connecticut, after leaving Pennsylvania, we shouldn’t have been surprised that she landed a spot in Hartford’s city planning department to help feed her family, and likewise in California when she left Connecticut. Until she got established in the musical community, she managed Fed Mart’s overseas accounts. In her retirement years, she moved from performing to teaching, where she left fingerprints on many careers. As a beloved traveling piano teacher, she wound up her music career teaching adults and children as evidenced by all the musical ‘tchotchkes’ and other gifts given to her as an expression of appreciation. When you use the gifts God puts deep down inside, you can make a difference. Gloria leaves to mourn her a devoted daughter, Janice; a loving nephew, Ron (Ann); loving niece, Joyce; three grandchildren, George, Veronica and Theresa; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gloria will be honored in the chapel at Monongahela Cemetery, 800 Country Club Road, Monongahela, Pa., at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, with a homegoing celebration with Bishop Karl Jackson officiating. Celebration of life has been gently placed in the hands of HOUSE OF JACKSON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 546 Thompson Ave., Donora, Karl Jackson, funeral director, 724-379-5420.
