Dorothy “Duke” Ann Podroskey, 90, of Monongahela, died Monday, May 22, 2023, in the Hallsworth House, Monessen. She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Marianna, the daughter of Louis and Helen Levandosky O’Neil. Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of Monongahela High School. In her younger years, she worked at Westinghouse as a secretary and later at General Motors in Pittsburgh. She often spoke of how she loved her jobs and always made friends at work. After staying at home to raise her family, she went on to work at Cox’s Department Store in Charleroi, loving the camaraderie with her coworkers. She also made hoagies for the Country Club Deli and ravioli for Jook and Stella Bartman at Angelo’s Restaurant, both in Monongahela. Dorothy spent many summers at the YMCA with her children and was proud to be a part of the swim team family. She and Jim installed a pool at the family home where many memorable summers were spent with splashes and music with children, grandchildren and friends. Her love of Engelbert Humperdinck was on a constant loop in her head, having seen him in concert at least 10 times with her girls. Dorothy was a member of Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish (formerly St. Anthony’s) and a former member of their Altar Rosary Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Dorothy loved taking trips to the Meadows and Atlantic City. In her spare time, she sold Tupperware and Home Interior. She bowled in numerous leagues and belonged to several card clubs. She loved the Pittsburgh Penguins, enjoyed reading and doing word searches. She is survived by nine children, Nancy (Doug) Cole of Monongahela, Barbara (Sam) Jackson of Belle Vernon, Janet (Darryl) Tabish of Monongahela, Susie (Brian) Campolong of South Park, Valerie (Alex) Bailes of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mark “Padro” (Cathie) Podroskey of Monongahela, James Podroskey of Monongahela, Jesse Podroskey of Monessen and Michael Podroskey of Monongahela; 12 grandchildren, Chad (Lori) Cole, Lynn Matusik, Jim (Caroline) Podroskey, Brad (Jess) Podroskey, Jared (Erin) Podroskey, Neal Podroskey, Erin (Chase) Kreger, Carly (Matt) Gargan, Mallory (Darrin Beres) Jackson, Nick (Heidi) Tabish, Travis Campolong and Leah Campolong; granddaughter-in-law, Lindsey Podroskey; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Elinor O’Neil of Jacksonville, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Podroskey, who died Sept. 10, 1999; grandson, Mark Podroskey; and siblings, Don and Brenda O’Neil. Dorothy’s children would like to especially thank the Hallsworth House staff, OSPTA Hospice and all of “Mama Duke’s Buddies” who lovingly cared for her and loved her like their own mom or grandma. We are forever grateful for your kindness. Rest in peace, Duke, you deserve it! We will miss you dearly! Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, in Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela, with the Rev. Kevin Dominik and the Rev. Douglas Boyd co-celebrating. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish Food Bank, 722 W. Main St., Monongahela, PA 15063.
