Mon River Arts will put on a production this fall unlike anything it has ever done before.
The organization has been chosen as a newly established replication site for the Penguin Project.
Developed in 2004 by Dr. Andy Morgan, a developmental pediatrician in Illinois, the initiative has since evolved into a national program, with chapter sites across the country that provide a supportive environment for children with disabilities to explore their creative talents.
The Mon Valley is known for award-winning high school theater performances, and this will offer a new opportunity for local youth with disabilities to take the stage and experience what it is like to be in the spotlight.
“Annie Jr.” will be performed at the Grand Theatre in Elizabeth on Sept. 14-17.
Once a year, The Penguin Project showcases a magical and touching celebration of the human spirit at various theaters across the country.
Children in The Penguin Project take the stage to perform a modified version of a well-known Broadway musical.
