Shirley Steel Rigby Grodecour – Monongahela

Shirley Steel Rigby Grodecour, 97, of Monongahela, died Sunday, May 2, 2023, peacefully at home. She was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Monongahela, daughter of the late Robert W. and Garnet Myers Steel. She was a 1944 graduate of South Hills High School. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monongahela, Daughters of the American Revolution-Monongahela Valley Chapter and the Order of the Eastern Star-Monessen Chapter. Mrs. Grodecour was a former member of the Fine Arts Club and AARP, both in Monongahela. She enjoyed playing bridge and swimming at the YMCA. Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands, Vernon E. Rigby, who passed away Aug. 21, 1960, and Frank R. Grodecour, who passed away June 19, 2002; sons, William S. Rigby and Jess E. Rigby; brothers, Robert W. Steel III and Paul K. Steel. She is survived by her daughter, Amy R. Barbour of Monongahela; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 609 Chess St., Monongahela. Inurnment will be private in the Monongahela Cemetery.
