Carolyn H. “Carol” Hopper, 80, of Portage, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2023. She was born on April 21, 1943, in Portage. Carolyn was the daughter of Fred and Sophie Moxim Schaffranek. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Hopper; her brother, Fred “Junior” Schaffranek; sister, Florence Helsel; and sister-in-law, Virginia Schaffranek. Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Cheri, wife of Joe Janosik of Monessen, and Lynn, wife of Tom Sweeney of Cary, N.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ranae and Joey Janosik, Tommy Sweeney (fiancée, Karlee Williams), MacKenzie Sweeney (fiancé, Zac Butler) and Michael Sweeney; and great-grandson, Zachary Janosik; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carolyn was the sister of Victor Schaffranek and Debbie, wife of Bill Cooper, all of Portage. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Schaffranek. Carolyn enjoyed camping with her extended family and friends at Woodland Campsite in Somerset, Pa., and watching her favorite Pittsburgh teams. She was an active member of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 131 in Portage and a member of the Portage Italian La-Marmora Society. Family received a reception of friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023, followed by a memorial service at MATTHEW R. DECORT FUNERAL HOME INC., in Portage, with Pastor Mark Fischer, officiant. Committal will be private to the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carolyn’s name to the Moose Charities Inc., 155 S. International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100 and/or the Cambria County Humane Society, 743 Galleria Drive Ext., Johnstown, PA 15904. Online condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com.
