Michael Sapko, 82, of Speers, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Born in Stockdale on Aug. 30, 1940, Michael was the son of the late Nicholas and Bertha Sudor Sapko. Michael graduated from Charleroi High School in the Class of 1958. Following high school, Mr. Sapko worked at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, Allenport Works, for over 38 years until his retirement. A member of Saint Andrew the Apostle – Charleroi site, he enjoyed swimming, playing cards, fishing and traveling the world with his wife, Judy. Michael was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly. Surviving to cherish Michael’s memory are his wife of 61 years, Judith (Anders) Sapko; his two sons, David (Tracey) Sapko and Michael (Tania) Sapko; his granddaughter, Haley (fiancé Chris) Sapko; and grandson, Noah Sapko; sister, Joanna (Neal, deceased) Garratt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Bertha Sapko. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2023, at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2023, at Saint Andrew the Apostle – Charleroi site, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
