Dale B. Stewart, 89, of Jefferson Township, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2023, in Mon Valley Care Center. A son of the late C. Dale and Marie Smith Stewart, he was born in Monessen on Aug. 19, 1933. Formerly of Monessen, Dale has been a resident of Jefferson Township since 1988.  He was a 1961 graduate of the former Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon), where he played football for four years. Dale had been employed at Armstrong International for three years, taught art and design at Monessen High School for 30 years and taught at Penn State-Fayette for three years. He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1953-57. Dale was an active member of Journey By Grace, the Athletic Alumni Association of the former Carnegie Tech and enjoyed painting in his spare time. He is survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins, including George and Mary Ann Lovich of Canton, Mich., Donald and Sandy Carson of Monongahela and Wayne Stewart of Amherst, Ohio; and many friends, including Jan and Domenick Amoroso. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Gale G. Stewart, on Dec. 26, 2017; and his son, Christian D. Stewart on Aug. 26, 2017. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023, at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, PA, 724-929-5300. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at Journey By Grace, Rostraver Township, with Pastor Bill Bailey and Pastor Josh Green co-officiating. Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Journey By Grace.
