‘Famous’ ham dinner to return at Charleroi Presbyterian Church
For the MVI
Charleroi Presbyterian Church has announced the return of its “famous” ham dinner, a signature event in the community dating back to 1925 that is still talked about by many today.
In keeping with the changing times, the event this year will be takeout only, but organizers say the spirit of years past is driving the event.
“People are always asking me and asking our church members, ‘When are you bringing back the ham dinner?’” said Ruthann Fordanish, a church member who is returning to oversee the dinner after 10 years. “I think the time is right. In this post-COVID era, people are looking for events that evoke memories of a time when communities were closer, and people were more connected. Our church’s ham dinner is one such event. It’s famous.”
The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 29 at the church, located at the corner of 5th Street and Lincoln Avenue in Charleroi. Dinners, which cost $15, include ham, potatoes, applesauce, corn, coleslaw and dessert. A basket raffle will also be held.
