Robert D. ‘Dal’ Cosgrove – Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Monongahela

Robert D. “Dal” Cosgrove, 80, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Monongahela, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023, in his home. Born Nov. 19, 1942, in Hazelwood, he was the son of the late Frederick E. and Mary Virginia Tompkins Cosgrove. Dal was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Monongahela and was currently attending the Holy Cross Eastern Orthodox Church in Ormond Beach, Fla. Following his graduation in 1960 from Charleroi High School, Dal earned his bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees in education and science from California University of Pennsylvania. He began working as a teacher and a coach in the Elizabeth Forward School District and retired after 37 years as their assistant principal. Dal is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie E. Lengyel Cosgrove; two daughters, Sister Agatha (Stephanie Cosgrove) of Elassona, Greece, and Kristen Harrison of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Matthew Harrison (Serra Kyle) and Michael Harrison of Annville, Pa.; and a granddaughter, Melissa Ross of Charleroi; his brother, Charles “Tony” (Nancy) Cosgrove of Pueblo, Colo.; brother-in-law, John (Jane) Lengyel; a sister-in-law, Karen Lengyel of Port Orange, Fla.; and Donna Lengyel of Monongahela; two nieces, Linda Pecharka and Amy Mavrich of Canonsburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Baltimore, Md. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick and William Thomas Cosgrove; and two sisters, Anna Mae Maund and Doris Hamilton. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023. Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 314 Sixth St., Monongahela, with the Rev. Dr. Edward Pehanich. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Dal’s name to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 314 Sixth St., Monongahela, PA 15063. A Panachida service will be held in the funeral home Friday evening at 7 p.m. Condolences can be made online at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
