By obits

Joye G. Flannigan, 85, of Carroll Township, died Thursday, April 13, 2023.  Born in Rostraver Township on May 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Lois Hannah Greenwood. Joye was a 1966 graduate of California State Teachers College and taught English in the Ringgold School District, where among her many classroom responsibilities, she was the inaugural sponsor of the Hunting and Fishing Club. In 1978, she became accredited at Pitt University to administrate the cooperative education program for the district. She also served as treasurer of REA for several years. Following her retirement, Joye worked for Patwil Homes and Walmart for many years. She enjoyed traveling with family and immersing them in the history of their travels. Joye was a leader of church activities, Sunday school teacher and several times the dean of Vacation Bible School and most recently, a member of Journey By Grace Church in Rostraver, where she facilitated the CD Ministry. She was also active in the Monongahela Food Bank and enjoyed being a member of her teacher/colleague card club. Joye loved spending time with family, and because of her passion for education, especially loved watching her grandchildren graduate. She insisted upon being present for graduations and consequently traveled to Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma, Georgia, Iowa, Virginia and many parts of Pennsylvania to take in commencement ceremonies. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Henry Flannigan Jr.; children, H. Brian (Lisa) Flannigan of Rockwood, Pa., Rebecca (Norm) Hofmeister of Carroll Township, Timothy (Cynthia) Flannigan of Powell, Ohio, and Randall (Adrienne) Flannigan of Cumming, Ga.; grandchildren, Greg (Thomas) Flannigan, Dan (Kailee) Flannigan, Matt (Tamba) Flannigan, Alyssa (Doug) Sutherland, Dr. Aaron (Renee) Hofmeister, Heidi (Ryan) Pergola, Jennifer (Josh) Borean, Jessica (Tom) Johnson, Brittany (Grant) DuPont, Bethany Flannigan, Angela Flannigan, Kaitlin Flannigan and Abigail Flannigan; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Charlotte, Eloise, Sadie, Delaney, Gianna, Madeline, Liam, Noah, Natalie, Danielle and Evelina. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com. The family will also receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Journey By Grace Church, 4803 PA-51, Rostraver Township, Pa., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Pastor William Bailey officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Journey By Grace Church, https://journeybygrace.org, or American Parkinson’s Disease Association, www.apdaparkinson.org.
