Nicholas John Gorzo Jr., age 81 and a 12-plus year cancer survivor of White Oak, died on Monday, April 10, 2023. He was born in McKeesport on Jan. 9, 1942, and is the son of the late Nicholas John Sr. and Anna Gothard Gorzo. He was employed as a plant manager at IGC transportation and was also a Pennsylvania state constable. He was a member of the Youghiogheny Masonic Lodge No. 583 and Shriners International. He was the founding member of the White Oak Rescue Squad and was a double lifetime member, past president, chairman of the board and fire police of the White Oak Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (call number 299). Nicholas was also a Boy Scouts leader, a charter member of the McKeesport Area Shared Ministries and an usher and trustee of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was an avid traveler with his family as well. He is survived by his wife, Joyce R. Fallert Gorzo, they were days short of their 60th wedding anniversary; children, Jacelyn (Donald) Strom of East McKeesport; Nicholas Arthur Gorzo of White Oak; grandson, Duston Strom; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Nicholas was preceded in death by his sisters, Marjorie (the late Stephen) Katich; and Jeannine (the late John) Palko. Family and friends will gather at STRIFFLERS OF WHITE OAK CREMATION AND MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA 15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177) from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, when services will be held in the funeral home chapel.
