Kenneth Bach – Smithton

By obits

Kenneth Bach, 77, of Smithton, died Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. He was born May 11, 1945, in Smithton, son of the late Arthur and Edith Mae Lynn Bach. Ken was employed at Maroney’s, Greensburg Chrysler/Ply-mouth, Matlack, Mill Service, Cummins, Cleveland Brothers Caterpillar, Hildenbrand Supply, the U.S. Post Office and Bach Auto (that he built and started). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Darla Bach; a sister, Suzie Bach; and two brothers, Arthur M. and Wayne Bach. He is survived by his son, Kenneth J Bach and wife Joni of Smithton; two grandchildren, his buddy Jarett and his sweetie Hannah; brothers, Curtis Branthoover and wife Joanne of Rostraver Township, and Melvin Bach and wife Rebecca of Maryland; and two sisters, Betty Mittag of Raleigh, N.C., and Jennie Bach of Smithton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, and many dear friends who affectionately referred to him as “Grumpy.” Ken helped whoever needed help. Whatever a youth baseball or softball team needed, all that had to be done was ask and he did it. Not because his grandchildren played, but for all the children. He worked more than many would believe possible. He gave everything he had to raise his family to the best of his ability, and had more fun working than vacationing, even though he did some of that also. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at L. L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 227 Second St., Smithton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with William “Smokey” Baird officiating. Burial will follow in Hoffman Cemetery, South Huntingdon Township. Ken will be missed forever, and those of us that remember him best will never forget him. In lieu of flowers, the family would like everyone to do a kind gesture for someone who needs something and think of Grumpy when you do it.
