Access to landfill test results questioned in Rostraver

Residents raised concerns about a landfill as well as speeding drivers during Rostraver Township’s business meeting Wednesday night. Kruell questioned why citizens had not gained access to test results from the DEP regarding leachate and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).
“Secondly, on March 10, 2023, the DEP took the mandated leachate test at Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill to do a radiological study and a VOC study,” he said. “Two samples were drawn, and they went to separate labs … has anyone here with health and safety approached the DEP on the results on these tests? We smell it where we live, we smell it in Monessen … has anyone reached out to the DEP?”
