Stephen Joseph Slavonia – Monessen
Stephen Joseph Slavonia, 89, of Monessen, died peacefully on March 31, 2023, with his devoted wife by his side. He was born Feb. 15, 1934, in Charleroi, and was the son of the late Stephen and Mae Minkovich Slavonia. Steve graduated from Charleroi High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a member of St. Leonard and Epiphany Roman Catholic Church. Steve worked at the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, retiring in 1996. In his leisure time, Steve liked to bowl, was an avid golfer, enjoyed Meadows horse racing as well as rooting for his favorite Pittsburgh sports and professional golfers. Steve also found joy in many friends and neighbors who watched sports with him, provided him delicious dinners, prayed with him, assisted in chores around the house and bought him scratch-off tickets. He is survived by his wife, Eva Mae Snyder Slavonia, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 25, 2023. Also surviving are his sister, Cindy Slavonia Reeves of Texas; and sisters-in-law, Patty Slavonia, Irene Slavonia and Sister Grace Snyder, OSF. He had enjoyed his many nephews and nieces, including Donnie (Laura) Reeves, Nick Slavonia, Bill (Rebecca) Snyder, Sandee (Roderick) Lalley, Bob (Maryanne) Snyder, Nancy Snyder Rodriguez, Gwen (John) Carr, Tim Snyder, Kathy Snyder and Keith Snyder; along with great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nephews, great-great-nieces and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude and Dennis Slavonia; brothers-in-law, Don Reeves and Bill and Jack Snyder; sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Alicia Snyder, OSF, Mary B. and Eleanore Snyder; nephew, Barry Jo Snyder; and nephew-in-law, Rick Rodriguez. His wife, Eva Mae and niece, Nancy would like to thank his home caregivers along with OSPTA VNS/PT Services and hospice team for the excellent care and compassion they showed Steve when transitioning to his spiritual home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to OSPTA Hospice and Monessen Ambulance Service in memory of Stephen J. Slavonia. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. Friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of the funeral service on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Private burial held in West Newton Cemetery.
