Kenneth W. Potemra – Newell, formerly of Monongahela
Kenneth W. Potemra, 77, of Newell, formerly of Monon-gahela, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born March 9, 1946, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Thomas E. Potemra and Mary Andrejcak Poljak and stepfather, Thomas C. Poljak. A resident of Newell for the past five years, Mr. Potemra was a member of St. John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis. He was a retired supervisor from U.S. Steel’s Clairton Works and was a proud U.S. Army Special Forces veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School and was a standout track athlete. In his spare time, Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his dog Gracie, cooking, golfing, traveling and cruise vacations, the casino and a good all-you-can-eat buffet. He is survived by his wife, Roxanna Shento, to whom he was married for 10 years; daughter, Tracy Hudak of Cape Coral, Fla.; two stepchildren Linda and Robert Hannan of Belle Vernon, Jason and Lisa Lane of Newell; brother, Thomas S. (Marlene) Potemra of Cheswick; two grandchildren, Matthew Hudak and Alissa Hudak; four step-grandchildren, Evan Hannan, Raya Hannan, Kasey Lane and Alissa Lane; pet great-granddogs, Jackson and Sara Lee; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by first wife, Patricia Plauchak Potemra, to whom he was married for 38 years. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 191 Liberty St., Perryopolis, 724-736-2515. Prayers of transfer will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. John The Baptist R.C. Church with the Rev. Rodolfo Mejia as celebrant. Interment will take place at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Members of St. John the Baptist parish will pray the Rosary for the departed soul of Kenneth Potemra at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Kenneth Potemra in the form of a memorial Mass or to the Washington County Humane Society.
