McKeesport students get royal treatment at Project Prom event

McKeesport Area School District girls know style.
Volunteers from McKeesport Area Shared Ministry UMC, the school district and larger community participated in Project Prom Saturday.
The annual event, run by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, outfits high schoolers with free gowns for prom night. The project ensures girls of all backgrounds have an opportunity to enjoy prom.
Organizers met with students at Beulah Park church at 8 a.m. and served continental breakfast. After the meal, 29 girls and their plus ones took a bus to the Project Prom Shop in Penn Hills.
The girls tried on gowns from an inventory of 5,000 new dresses. With help from supporting staff, they picked their favorite to keep.
After selecting gowns, organizers brought girls back to the church to serve them high tea. The reception featured tea, finger sandwiches, confections, biscuits, jelly and other British staples.
