LaVern Jakela – Donora

LaVern Jakela, 96, of Donora, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Mon Valley Care Center. She was born April 6, 1926, in Belle Vernon, daughter of the late Joseph Miller and the late Norma Devesse Miller. LaVern was a 1944 graduate of North Belle Vernon High School. She attended Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for many years at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital and then at Mon Valley Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. “Edge” Jakela Sr.; and a sister, Jacqueline Johnston. Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Edward A. “Itch” Jakela Jr.; a brother, Charles Miller of South Carolina; and her beloved cat, Annie. Arrangements have been entrusted to ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, where family and friends are invited to attend a remembrance gathering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
