House fire in Monongahela
First responders were called to a structure fire on Jackson Street in Monongahela just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. According to information on the scanner, a caller reported flames and smoke coming from the home, with residents unable to evacuate. Police confirmed there was a working structure fire with residents on the roof of the home. They later said those inside were able to evacuate, while heavy fire was still showing, but pets were reportedly trapped inside. Danna Walters-Miller, wife of Monongahela councilman Daryl Miller, said the home belongs to state constable James T. Smith. Walters-Miller said she received $20 from Mayor Greg Garry to start a fundraiser for the family, and she plans to set up an account at cfsbank today. Crews from Monongahela, New Eagle, Carroll Township and Valley Inn RIT initially responded to the scene as well as Monongahela police.
