Violet Wiseman Fonner, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at her home. A native of Pennsylvania, she moved to Waynesville in January 2022 with her daughter, Diane, and son-in-law, Doug. Violet always enjoyed the mountains and after retirement, traveled all over the country with close friends and family. Violet was the daughter of the late Roderick and Mary Smith Wiseman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ronald L. Fonner, in 2020; and two brothers, Floyd and Rod Wiseman. Violet earned her master’s degree in mathematics at Bowling Green State University and enjoyed teaching math to high school students at Allegany Central School until her retirement. Violet was always active in her church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Fonner Uff (Gene) and Diane Nathan-Garner (Doug); sister, Jean Blake (Will); sisters-in-law, Jane Wiseman and Janet Wiseman; grandchildren, Ian Nathan and Kirstyn Tanner; and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Kennedy. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Greene County Memorial Park in Pennsylvania. The care of Mrs. Fonner has been entrusted to WELLS FUNERAL HOME of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
