Hilda Jane Brown Lewis – Donora

By obits

Hilda Jane Brown Lewis, formerly of Donora, left her earthly life behind after a brief illness on March 15, 2023, to join her husband, parents, sister and brothers. She was born in Donora on May 13, 1932, and was the youngest child of the late Lucretia Wilder Brown and Peter Brown Sr. She was a graduate of Donora High School, Class of 1950. After graduation, Hilda held many different positions in her career, including licensed practical nurse, social worker and teacher’s aide. Hilda loved her church and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Donora, where she served in several roles up until her death, including treasurer, usher board and trustee. She was also an active member of the Senior Action Committee and was dedicated to her favorite causes of voter registration and voting education. Hilda believed everyone should exercise their freedom to cast a ballot. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lewis Sr.; parents; sister, Ethel Mae (Brown) Robinson; brothers, Herman Brown and Peter Brown Jr.; and her goddaughter, Michele Lea-Stokes. Hilda spent her life continually making new friends and treasuring old friends which kept her young at heart. Her best sister-friends-for-life, Fannie Burroughs and Maryann Hall, held a special bond for over 60 years. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lewis (Joseph Banks) of Michigan; son, Richard Lewis Jr. (Terri Lewis) of Florida; nieces, Kim Fields (David Fields) of Wexford, Patricia Brown, Jewel Gibson, May Rose Pickens, Gina Brown and Carol Lucier (William Lucier); nephews, Greg Brown (Dawn Brown), Herman Brown Jr., Golden Gibson, Peter Brown Jr. and Carol Lucier. She is also survived by the loving and caring relatives of the Corley-George family, and leaves behind a large extended family with cousins, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews. She also leaves behind two lovable grand dogs, Lucki Lewis and Lacey Lee Lewis. Hilda was the matriarch of our family, relative to many and a friend to all. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, with service to follow at First Baptist Church, 541 Allen Ave., Donora, PA 15033. Eulogizing is Elder Jack Howell. Interment will be at Mon Valley Memorial Park, 49 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033. Arrangements entrusted to WILLIAM R.
