Busy day for local firefighters

Firefighters from Monessen No. 1, Monessen Hilltop, North Belle Vernon, Bentleyville, Washington Township, Charleroi and Carroll Township responded Monday morning to smoke coming from a home on Luce Avenue in Monessen. Municipal fire Chief Delmar Hepple said no one was hurt in the incident, which resulted from a cigarette butt burning through an ashtray and table overnight. Moments later, there was a call on Zippay Road in Fallowfield Township for smoke in a residence, and then another report of smoke Monday afternoon at SPHS in Chamber Plaza in Charleroi.
