Founded in 1948, White Oak Borough will celebrate its 75th birthday throughout the coming year with a series of community events.
The celebration will kick off Saturday with a scavenger hunt at the borough building, 2280 Lincoln Way.
The scavenger hunt will begin at noon when the first clues will be distributed to the players.
Participants will have two hours to solve riddles and find 11 sites related to the borough’s history.
The final clue will lead the participants to the “pot of gold” celebration where they will hand in their score sheets and share their experiences while enjoying some refreshments with the other competitors.
Every person or team that finds all of the sites on the scavenger hunt list will be entered in a prize drawing. Winners will receive gift cards from a number of White Oak businesses. The top prize will be $125, with two other winners receiving cards valued at $50 and $25.
Michele Gessner, White Oak Borough’s administrative assistant, said that the anniversary committee is pleased with the response to the scavenger hunt.
So far, 14 teams and about 55 people have pre-registered for the family-friendly event. Some of the registered groups are families while others are just groups of friends looking for a fun weekend activity.
