Delphine “Dee” Besse, 83, of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. Dee was born on Jan. 10, 1940, in Youngstown, Ohio, to C. Lewis and Virginia Morgan. At the age of 3, her family relocated to Belle Vernon, where she was raised. After graduating from Rostraver High School in 1958, she went to work for Avis Rent-A-Car in Youngstown, Ohio, as a station manager. On Oct. 20, 1973, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Besse of Warren, Ohio. Dee and Jim welcomed the birth of their son, James “Jimmy” Besse in 1974. During Jim’s career with General Motors, they took advantage of the opportunities to relocate to El Paso, Texas, and Laredo, Texas. After Jim’s retirement, the couple relocated to Tallahassee, Fla., to be near family. In 2002, Dee became a volunteer/student mentor at Killearn Lakes Elementary School in Tallahassee, and remained there for 10 years. She then became an account representative with Recycled Paper Greetings. Dee was a faithful member of Deer Lake United Methodist Church, where she served as a member of the Congregational Care Committee for many years. Dee was preceded in death by her father, C. Lewis Morgan; and mother, Virginia Morgan. She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Jimmy (Amy); grandchildren, Aubrey and Tanner; brother, Ron Morgan (Kathy); sister, Sandy Markle (Dub); several nieces and nephews; and granddog, Remington Grace. Services will be held at Deer Lake United Methodist Church of Tallahassee, Fla., at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023. A family visitation reception will be held following the service. The service will be live streamed on the Deer Lake United Methodist Church YouTube channel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center, via TMH Foundation.
