Valley native to play for ‘Pokémon GO’ world title

Monessen resident Mayson Atkinson won the “Pokémon GO” 2023 Pokémon Toronto Regional Championship late last year, which qualifies him to compete in August’s world championships in Yokohama, Japan. The 26-year-old graduated from Ringgold High School in 2015 and grew up in Donora. Now a Penn State grad and engineer, Atkinson is also becoming increasingly well-known in the burgeoning scene for competitive “Pokémon GO,” a popular spin-off of the “Pokémon” video game series played on smartphones.
