Valley swimmers become medalists at WPIAL meet

Swimmers from Belle Vernon, Elizabeth Forward, Ringgold, Thomas Jefferson, Serra Catholic and McKeesport competed in the first day of the Class 2A WPIAL Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Pittsburgh’s Trees Pool Thursday afternoon. There were five top-10 individual finishers for the Mon Valley on Day 1 as Thomas Jefferson’s Genevieve Cody placed 4th in the girls 50 freestyle with a time of 24.14. California’s Anastasia Georgagis placed sixth in the 100 butterfly with a 59.93 finish, Belle Vernon’s Nick Reda scored seventh place in the boys 200 free with a 1:46.04 finish, Serra Catholic’s Kelly Morrissey placed 10th with a 25.25 finish in the girls 50 free and Elizabeth Forward’s Kaden Faychak earned 10th in the boys 50 free with a 22.54.
