Evelyn Mae Skurkay Russell – Charleroi

Evelyn Mae Skurkay Russell, 85, of Charleroi, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. Born April 17, 1937, in Rostraver Township, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Eva Bazilwich Skurkay. A resident of Charleroi for the past 45 years, Mrs. Russell was a member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Charleroi. Mrs. Russell was a homemaker, worked at a fish cannery in Alaska, later was an aide at a nursing home in Fallowfield Township and a secretary at Beacon Supply in Belle Vernon. Evelyn enjoyed her flower garden, was an animal lover and most of all enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She is survived by her three sons and a daughter-in-law, George Russell of Charleroi, James and Susan M. Russell of Bentleyville, and Stephen Russell of Johnstown; two grandchildren, Stephanie Hensley and husband Drew, and Joseph Russell and wife Kelsey; two great-grandchildren, Amaris Russell and Kolsyn Russell; and two sisters, Mariann Mica of Smithton and Margaret Cornett of Belle Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. “Digger” Russell on Aug. 16, 1999; infant brother, Serge Skurkay; and brother, Peter Skurkay. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC with the Rev. Andrew Scott of First Presbyterian Church, Bentleyville, officiating.
