Ringgold High School brings back the ‘70s this weekend with their production of “Mamma Mia.”
The show features nearly 70 student actors, musicians and stage hands. Long-time Ringgold band and music director Dawn Mason said putting on the production is a dream come true.
“It’s been the show I’ve always wanted to do,” Mason said. “When I had the chance to pick the show this year, I said, ‘Yeah, I’m doing Mamma Mia.’”
The two and a half hour production at the Ringgold High School auditorium runs 7 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased online for $10 at www.showtix4u.com/event-details/71215. The school will sell limited tickets at the door.
Links to online ticket sales are also available on the Ringgold School District website.
Students will perform the original script of the 1999 hit musical, which exclusively features music from Swedish rock band ABBA.
Mason added concessions and preshow entertainment emphasize the style of the era.
“We have a basket raffle and Cracker Jacks with prizes in the box,” she said. “We’ll also have a disco-themed photo booth with props like boas and sunglasses. We’re going full ‘70s.”
