Valentine’s Day dance special for area life skills students

Valentine’s Day was extra sweet for Belle Vernon Area life skills students who danced the morning away with their friends Tuesday.
For the past three years, the school’s annual Valentine’s Day dance was canceled because of mandates and other concerns brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last year students tore up the dance floor was in 2020, before the pandemic shut down schools.
Up to that point, BVA life skills teacher Cindy Pierce had invited life skills students from around the region to attend the party each year in the high school gymnasium.
Pierce said the dance is a way for life skills students to connect with their peers, make friends and have fun in a social setting.
Although some schools had to cancel their plans to attend this year because of two recent tragedies in the area, nearly 100 life skills students from Chartiers Valley, Mount Pleasant, Washington, South Fayette and Upper Saint Clair joined BVA students in the gymnasium, dressed to impress and ready to bust out their best dance moves.
